Preferred term

spaceborne multispectral imaging

Definition

  • Imaging reflected (or sometimes emitted) optical electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths that usually fall between 315 nm and 3000 nm from a space-borne platform. In contrast to imaging spectroscopy and standard photography, multi-spectral imaging captures the incoming radiation in four up to ten adjacent spectral bands that are commonly between 20 nm to 100 nm wide.
