Concept information
Preferred term
elemental and molecular analysis
Definition
- Qualitative identification of elements/metals/ions that compose a sample of some material. In contrast to molecular qualitative analysis, with a lot of organic compounds having very similar properties, elemental identification is relatively simple in implementation, because elements are not numerous and differ notably in their properties.
