  • A chemical analysis of solid surfaces, AES is based on detection of electrons ejected from surface atoms as a result of bombardment with an electron-beam. The potential application of AES in archaeological studies includes metallurgical aspect such as metallic-phases distribution analysis, evaluation of corrosion and weathering damage and diffusion kinetics studies.
