Scope note

  • Narrative technique in which the narrator is one who exists within the storyworld of a particular text and tells a story (about his past, for instance, or a fictional story) which is situated at a secondary narrative level with respect to the main story. Ιntradiegetic story is a story within a story. For example, Scheherazade, in One Thousand and One Nights, is an intradiegetic narrator, since she narrates her stories within the frame of the main story.
