Scope note

  • An office that first appears in ancient Athens. Kolakretai were officials in charge of managing public revenue and expenses. The term dates back to the Homeric years, when Kolakretai were persons responsible for the dismemberment and the sharing of the sacrificed animals. In later years Solon appointed them treasurers of the State Treasury. The office was abolished in 411 BC, and their duties were transferred to the Hellinotamies.
