Scope note
- Dramaturgic technique presenting the dramatis personae ignoring current or future situations other characters and/or the audience are aware of. As a result, their words take on a different—often contradictory—meaning for those who know the truth. The character acts in a way that the spectators know is erroneous for the specific circumstances or expects the opposite of what is fated to happen.
