Scope note
- The Ismailis constitute the second largest Shia community after the Twelvers and are scattered in more than twenty countries of Asia, Africa, Europe and America. Ismailis and Twelvers are both branches of the Imami Shiites, who acknowledge the successors of Muhammad and Ali, his son-in-law, as leaders of the Muslims. Twelvers amd Ismailis differ as to the line of succession of the imams after the first six imams, whom they both recognise. Moreover, most of the Ismailis believe that the line of the Imams continues to this day.
