Scope note
- Heavy, cast, bronze discs used as a currency in central Italy from around 280-275 BCE until the introduction of the denarii, in 211 BCE. They can be understood as a Roman hybrid between the Greek round coins and the central Italian heavy bronze currency. The basic aes grave unit, theoretically weighting a Roman pound, was the assarius.
