Scope note
- Tourism is a leisure activity that implies moving to and staying for a short period of time in a destination in order to visit sites with social and cultural characteristics different from the visitors' everyday experience, in anticipation of pleasure and knowledge. This anticipation is created and sustained through information channels and networks of communication. Tourism is a mass phenomenon in modern societies and sustains -and is sustained by- a huge market worldwide.
