Scope note
- Roman bronze coins equivalent to the 1/4 of an assarius. Τhey were first introduced as cast coins during the 3rd c. BCE and they bore three pellets as a mark of value. After ca. 90 BCE the quadrantes became the lowest-valued coins in circulation. They continued to be minted until the time of Antoninus Pius (138-161 CE).
