Scope note
- Prolonged periods of restricted rainfall that drastically reduce subsoil water and have catastrophic effects on the ecosystem and the productive activities, leading thus often to acute food crises. The effects of droughts on human societies depend always on socio-economic and political structures, goals, and inequalities.
