Scope note
- Ritual events that accompany a person's accession to kingship or highest ecclesiastical office. As a rule, enthronements follow a specific ceremony that conveys symbolic legitimation to the person and the office, reinforces the claims of power that derive from the office, and invokes a representation of the social and political order that the office is considered to embody.
