Scope note

  • A method of analyzing literary texts that involves the use of algorithms, statistical tools and programs to manage large volumes of data provided by digitized literary works, capturing the results in the form of graphs and trees. Distant reading can reveal narrative patterns in large corpora of literary texts that cannot be detected by close reading, that is by the word by word reading of the texts which emphasizes the single and the particular over the general.
