Scope note
- Broad area of philosophy that raises questions about the nature, constitution and structure of reality, which lie beyond and behind those capable of being tackled by the methods of science. Therefore, metaphysics is broader in scope and more fundamental than science. Some of the more traditional questions of metaphysics are those of mind and body, events, causation, as well as questions on the existence (being), the characteristics and the categories of beings. This last group of questions belong to that branch of metaphysics called "ontology", which is often used as a synonym of metaphysics.
