Scope note
- Form of tourism that is mainly expressed in visiting religious monuments, following religious practices, and taking part in religious pilgrimages. Religious tourism is motivated by specific religious precepts, by the desire for experiences of faith, by a quest of spirituality, or even by expectations of purification and healing. The roots of religious tourism lie in the pilgrimage practices inherent in many world religions.
