Anwendungshinweise
- The transformation of a source work into a new form or genre, for a purpose, use, or medium other than that for which the original was intended, e.g. commonly a novel rewritten as a play (theatrical adaptation) or as a film (film adaptation). This creative process is sometimes associated with postmodernist notions of intertextuality and hybridity and the study of the interweaving of different texts and textual traditions in literature, art, film, and music. In a theatrical adaptation the narrative content, which is retained more or less faithfully, although sometimes with significant differences, is adapted, while the discursive structure undergoes a radical change from one enunciative mechanism to another. The recast work adapts to the norms and conventions governing the new genre’s framework to which it is ascribed, often with the purpose of offering a commentary on the source.
