Anwendungshinweise
- Attic comedy, a dramatic genre with Dionysian origins (from the word Κomos, a procession in honour of god Dionysos), draws inspiration from everyday life, the social and political reality and is -unlike tragedy- characterised by considerable freedom regarding the form. Distinctive structural elements of attic comedy are the Agon and the Parabassis. The members of the choruses wore masks and held phalluses performing a comic and obscene dance called Kordax. It is divided into the old (end of the 5th century BCE) that was highly political, the middle (beginning of the 4th) and the new (4th-3rd century BCE) comedy, the latter two focusing on family life and character study.
